WebNot to discourage you, but making a character customization system (I'm assuming you mean "system" and not "screen" since setting up UI for an already made feature should be much easier) is not at all an easy task. Also, are you talking 2D as in paper 2D and sprites or 3D characters on a single plane (e.g. a platformer, etc)?
