Fur pelts were one of the main things that Native Americans traded to the Dutch and French traders. WebThey put together a small military force made up of Frenchmen, Hurons, and Algonquins to counter the Iroquois raids, but the Iroquois attacked them when they ventured into the countryside. Only 29 of the French survived and escaped; five were captured and tortured to death by the Iroquois. [citation needed]
